Ideas for creating your own reed Diffuser Scents:

Picture
Gift Idea from the Village Collective. - Create stunning colourful bottles to make your house smell extra fresh.  Reed Diffusers can be quite pricey, however, by making your own fragrance oil can cut costs down immensely.

SUPPLIES:
  • ¼ light oil (almond or coconut or grapeseed oil)
  • 15 - 20 drops essential oil
  • 2 Tbsp rubbing alcohol or vodka
  • Glass container with narrow mouth
  • Glass measuring cup
  • Reed sticks or bamboo skewers

INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. Add ¼ cup of light oil to a glass measuring cup.
  2. Add 2 Tbsp of rubbing alcohol or vodka to  the measuring cup. (the alcohol thins out the oils and helps them travel up the reeds.)
  3. Add 15 - 20 drops of your favourite essential oil.  Use one of the reeds to stir the mixture and pour into a glass container.
  4. Add the remaining reeds and fan them out.  (if using bamboo skewers, cut the pointed end of and have them be only twice the length of the bottle.)
  5. You can complete the look by either adding food colouring if bottles clear or adding decor to the outside of the bottles for style.

  • 6 drops grapefruit + 6 drops orange + 4 drops lemon + 2 drops bergamot
  • 6 drops lemongrass + 6 drops lavender + 6 drops eucalyptus

Aromatherapy Baths

Picture
You can create your own spa experience with just a few essential oils and a tub of hot water.
Experiment with 3 to 5 drops of complementary oils, adjusting the total amount to suit your individual taste.  You can add the oils directly to your bath or, for added luxury, disperse them in milk first.

Here are some excellent combinations:
Soothe away your worries - lavender, chamomile, geranium
Floral Escape -  rose, ylang-ylang
Pampered & Scented - rose, frankincense, sage and geranium
Deep Forest Pool -  pine,  rosemary and eucalyptus
Escape to the Woods -  sandalwood and cedarwood

Easing colds with Essential Oils

Picture
Cold Care Bath -  This pungent blend open the nose and soothes aching muscles.  It is effective when a cold is coming on.  Before using, apply to a small patch of skin to test for any sensitivity.
5 drops Eucalyptus + 2 drops Peppermint + 2 drops Lavender

Chest Cold Care Bath -  This blend is useful for that congested, tight feeling in the chest that often accompanies a cold or flu.
3 drops Frankincense + 2 drops hyssop + 6 drops Eucalyptus
PLEASE NOTE:
Don't add oils while water is running;  if added to water while tub is filling much of the precious essences goes up in steam and very little is left to be absorbed by the skin.
Remember LESS is best;  adding more essential oils will not necessarily make you feel better than small amounts will. These are very concentrated and should be used sparingly and well diluted.  Generally, err on the side of  too little than too much.

Mix well:  Once you add the oils to water - mix well, either dilute the oils with a carrier oil before adding to water or mix with  ¼ cup milk.
Watch your step:  caution:  may make tub slippery.  Watch your step!
Children & essential oils:  stick to the mildest amount if adding to a child's bath, stay away from the citrus blends and be very cautious of any sensitivity to skin.
