Welcome to the Sparta Spirit Walk full of history and hauntings, images from a world long past and a village renewed.
There have been murders in this town, suicides, treason charged then hangings, and the bodies returned to be buried in the Quaker Cemetery (Sparta South). There were secret meetings, gossip and rivalry. Settlement began here during the War of 1812.
‘May we introduce you to your Guide, that is if you can see her!
Some can not, as you see they are not believers, thus they tend to doubt what is clearly set before them. Join Miss Bryce on this fun walk and you may surprise yourself with abilities unaware.
"Hello, my name is Lily-Rose Bryce. I was born in 1837 in Cornwall in England. I came to Canada by Steamer and made my way to live in the thriving busy town of Sparta in 1855 when I was 18 years old.
I got a job at the Elgin House and I also worked for Sarah Strasser, I helped her around her house.
I loved to dance and all of us young ladies would spend our evenings in the dance halls dancing the square dance, polkas, reels and jigs, until we were all quite breathless. Nancy Perkins and me would go everywhere together but she died when she was 25 years old from tuberculosis.
I died in 1899 in my 68th year, when a runaway carriage came hurtling down Main Street just as I stepped off the sidewalk. Some say I had too much of the whisky but they be telling stories. Which is why I’ve come back to set things straight."
